IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN

Basketball Athletic Period:

  • If you are playing basketball as a freshman, or trying to play, to start school in the fall your athletic period should be the basketball class, contact your counselor if you are not enrolled in the basketball class period.

  • The only exception to the above, is if you are playing football. There is a separate tryout for kids who play football, once football season ends.

Tryout Information:

  • Tryouts for basketball take place the first week and a half to two weeks of the school year during the basketball class period. This is why it is crucial to be enrolled in the class period.

  • Even if you are unsure if you will make the team, enroll in the basketball class so you can participate in tryouts. All non-football players will tryout during this time, the exceptions being, if you are injured during tryouts or move in after tryouts have taken place. If you are injured, you still need to be enrolled in the class.

  • If you tryout and do not make the team, you will meet with your counselor to choose the course you would like to replace basketball with, and receive a schedule change.

  • In order to tryout, you must have a completed physical form for the school year on file with our Kingwood High School training staff, and all RankOne parent forms completed. No student can tryout without having these items completed.

  • Please get these done and turned in before the school year starts. The trainers will allow forms to be turned into them starting a couple of weeks before school starts.

  • We try to start tryouts the third day of school, using the first two days to check that physical and RankOne forms have been turned in.

  • Every kid gets a minimum of 3 days of tryouts, but if you have not completed your physical or RankOne forms, each day of tryouts you are not able to participate in because of the forms not being completed, will count as a tryout day (unless you have contacted coach about when the physical is scheduled and your plan to complete these in a timely manner)

  • When tryouts are complete, we talk to each kid individually to let them know their status.

  • Before school starts, students enrolled in the basketball class will receive emails with reminders and information regarding tryouts and completing physical/online forms.

SAC and Summer Skill Work & Practice:

  • After basketball camp, we have all of our basketball players do our Basketball SAC and Sport Specific Training throughout the summer.

  • All of the players in our program are required to participate in this, we encourage incoming freshmen to participate, as long as you have a high level of basketball experience because players will be doing drills, practicing with, and at times competing with, all of our players sophomores thru seniors. Please go to the "SAC" tab for full info or contact Coach Huseman if you have any questions (kolby.huseman@humbleisd.net).

We will continue to have open gyms and opportunities for the kids to be in the gyms throughout the summer, please follow @kingwoodbasketball to stay up to date on last minute announcements!
